Skye somehow survived Gwen's angry rant from earlier when he and the four other boys waltzed into the antique shop. The two cousins eventually made a deal; the boys would have to work if they wanted to stay. Skye told her that they were going to be guests temporarily, but he had no idea how he was going to find the courage to kick them out. He wished that they were uber annoying or mean, so that he would not feel so guilty with wanting them to leave. However, besides Arun and Cyan's occasional fighting, they were mostly innocent and childlike. Especially Nagisa, who acted like a shy little girl, just as much as he looked it. And, of course, Cyan had to stay, no matter how angry Gwen got.

The next day (after the long and uncomfortable night of sharing a bed with four boys), Skye and the mermen began to work at the antique shop downstairs. The young blond was just about to get them started on unloading a box, when his cousin walked in and stopped him. Gwen pulled him away from the others so that she could talk to him privately. The mermen's curious eyes followed him as he was dragged away.

"Listen, Skye," Gwen whispered, "I didn't want to embarrass them.... but I really need to know..."

"Know what?" Skye asked nervously.

"Why do they look like homeless people?" Gwen asked as she continued to whisper.

Skye tried his best not to laugh.

"Honestly...." Gwen sighed, "Since we are so close to the beach, I'm used to having customers walk in with raggedy swim wear... but that doesn't mean the employees should do the same!"

Skye looked over at the four other boys who were a few shelves away. He didn't know what to say to her.

"I could tell her that it doesn't matter, because they won't work here for long... but besides that, they still need their own clothes. Even if they don't work here, I can't have them walking around like that wherever they go," Skye thought.

Skye patted his cousin on the shoulder.

"Alright. I'll go talk to them," Skye answered.

The surfer returned to the group. During the short time that he was away, Cyan and Arun had already got into a fight, and it was apparently caused by Arun trying to steal something shiny of the shelf. Skye could care less, he had too much on his mind. He took out his wallet from his back pocket. He sadly sighed after seeing the small amount of cash inside.

"Guys," Skye began, "I'm going to take you clothes shopping."

"Oooh~!" The three smallest mermen gasped in excitement, except for Zain, who looked at the other mermen with mild surprise on his face. Their sudden outburst must have caught him off guard, but it was hard to tell because of his small range of expressions.

"Don't get too excited! I can't buy you guys that much," Skye added.

Nagisa paused from bouncing up and down in excitement with the others and looked at Skye with his eyes filled with concern. He then looked down at his feet, as if he were coming to his senses.

"I can't accept this, Skye..." Nagisa said.

"Eh? We can't??" Arun asked sadly.

"Yes, Arun!" Nagisa said in a disciplining tone, "We can't just keep taking advantage of them!"

Skye and Cyan exchanged concerned glances.

"We're not like Cyan, we don't have a reason to be here." Nagisa finished.

"That's not true, is it?" Cyan asked.

Nagisa turned his head slowly to face Cyan with surprise in his eyes.

"You still haven't told me what you guys are doing on land. How come you guys can't go back out to sea?" Cyan added.

Disappointed that they had been found out, Nagisa looked back down at his feet, but said nothing.

"We were stupid," Zain finally answered.

Nagisa closed his eyes in shame.

"We haven't been hiding ourselves too well the past few years. We've been reckless, we thought we could get away with anything," Zain paused, "But a boat has been tracking us for awhile now. They've been very persistent. We had no choice to come on land. We wanted to find you--"

"We wanted to warn you, Cyan!" Nagisa interrupted and turned to face Cyan, with tears in his eyes, "But I was so ashamed, I couldn't bring it up...."

"Its alright, Nagisa," Cyan then took Skye's hand into his own, "I've been reckless too, if you haven't noticed."

Cyan winked and Nagisa giggled a bit.

"You guys can stay," Skye said, and all the mermen looked over at him, "as long as you need. But its not fair for my cousin. It's not really up to me."

The mermen went silent for awhile.
"So we'll just have to wait and see what she decides, but no matter what.... I-I want to help you guys." Skye said, and felt a little embarrassed. Nagisa, with tears still in his eyes, smiled at Skye.

"Thank you..."

"So can we go clothes shopping now?" Arun asked because he was starting to grow more and more impatient.

The five of them left the antique shop. The three new mermen walked up ahead, while Skye and Cyan stayed in the back.

"I feel guilty," Cyan said after awhile, finally breaking the silence.

"I know you do," Skye replied, "You're thinking, 'if it wasn't for me, these guys wouldn't have become a burden to Skye'. Am I right?"

Cyan responded by nodding his head.

"Turn left up ahead, guys!" Skye announced to his newly adopted mermen. He then ruffled Cyan's hair.

"Don't worry about it. This was my decision, after all. And besides," Skye turned to Cyan and gave him a wide grin, "This might be fun!"

"Yeah, fun, right..." Cyan said sarcastically, causing Skye to laugh.

"I don't know how Nagisa has done it all these years," Cyan said as he stared at the back of Nagisa, several paces in front of them.

"Hmm?" Skye questioned.

"Watching after Arun and Zain," Cyan explained, "Nagisa, despite his appearance, he's a lot older than the rest of us. First Nagisa, then Zain and I are roughly the same age, and then Arun is the youngest, by quite a lot."

Skye was confused, since he thought they were all the same age group. But he knew if Cyan explained it to him fully, he wouldn't be able to wrap his head around it anyways.

"I know I should be nicer to Arun, since he's just a kid and all, but I just can't get along with him!!" Cyan complained.

"Well, at least you're the reasonable one," Skye said, and laughed a bit.

"But like I was saying; Nagisa has been like a mom to them. I don't know how he does it. Arun and Zain are such a handful." Cyan finished.
"I understand Arun being tough to handle, but Zain?" Skye questioned.

"He has his moments. I've seen him get really emotional before. I think he's so calm and composed all the time, because if he shows even a bit of emotion, it'll all just pour out," the young raven-haired merman thought out loud.

"Hmm. Not sure I want to see that...." Skye mumbled to himself.

Arun ran up to a window of a shop. Inside was a lucky cat figure with a motorized paw that rocked back and forth. The curly-haired merboy stared in awe. Skye recognized the shop; it was a store that sold foreign items, mostly from Asian countries. The windows were covered in Kung-Fu movie posters and zodiac signs.

"We can't go in there," Skye said, "Its too expensive. There's a thrift store just on the end of this street."

Unfortunately for Skye, the burgundy-haired boy had already run into the store, with Nagisa and Zain following closely behind.

"Look at this!" Arun gasped as he reached for a samurai sword, but Zain grabbed his wrist just in time.

"No touching!" Skye announced, and felt embarrassed at how much he sounded like a mother, "The clothes are in the back of the store."

There were a row of Chinese dresses, each of different sizes and colors.

"I knew this wouldn't be the best store to search for clothes..." Skye thought, but to his surprise, Nagisa and Arun began to dig through the dresses.

Nagisa pulled out a white dress with pink designs. It very much matched his intricate hair color of blondes and pinks. Arun pulled out a black dress with blue designs, but brought it over to Cyan.

"Here, you try it on! This fits you better anyways." Arun said as he tried to hand over the dress to Cyan.

"Are you trying to say I look like a girl--" Cyan began to get angry, but Skye interrupted.

"I think he's trying to be nice," Skye whispered. But he really just wanted to see Cyan try it on.

Cyan hesitantly took the dress and the two girly mermen headed toward the dressing rooms, which was just a small box-like area with curtains.

Skye saw Zain take a flowery hair pin off the shelf and stare at it for awhile. It wasn't long until Nagisa had finished changing and brought Skye's attention back to the dressing rooms.

Nagisa emerged and the dress fit him perfectly.

"Of course. It just HAD to be PERFECT. Guess I'll be spending more money than I thought," Skye thought, but smiled at Nagisa anyways.

Arun wolf whistled. Zain walked up to Nagisa and held the hair pin up to Nagisa's hair without putting it in.

"We can't afford that, Zain," Nagisa said.

"I know. But it looks nice. Maybe I can buy it myself someday," Zain replied.

Nagisa smiled up at the taller merman.

"What's taking so long, Cyan?" Arun asked.

"Uh..." Cyan merely answered.

Before Skye could stop him, Arun pulled the curtain back. Luckily, Cyan was dressed. However, just barely, it seemed.

"You got me the wrong size, dummy!" Cyan exclaimed at Arun. The poor merman had his hands at the bottom of the front of his dress, trying his best to tug it lower so that he would not expose himself. Unfortunately for him, since his hands were up front, his cute little ass hung out in the back. The dress had a slit in the side, which was usually a small slit, but in this case it exposed Cyan even more.

Arun shrugged dramatically.

"How was I supposed to know about sizes and numbers and all that?" Arun said and his tone was painfully obvious that he was lying.

"You're smart enough to know at least that!" Cyan yelled and pointed an accusing finger at Arun's smirking face.

Skye noticed that the shopkeeper, who was an round, dwarf-sized Chinese woman, had started to woddle on over to them, with her face scrunched up in annoyance. Skye quickly closed the curtain on both Nagisa and Cyan.

"Hurry and change. I'll buy the dress for Nagisa," Skye said to the two through the curtains. Although, he would miss seeing Cyan in that other dress.
